Bouldering Day Pass

Why We Introduced the Bouldering Day Pass – Supporting Access and Local Harmony

As the popularity of bouldering on Åland continues to grow, especially around the beautiful Getabergen and the coastal crags near Norrhavet, we’ve faced an important challenge: how can we ensure long-term access to these amazing climbing areas while respecting the local landowners and infrastructure?

That’s why we’ve introduced something we call the Bouldering Day Pass.

For just €12 per day, this pass helps create a sustainable model that benefits both climbers and the local community. Here's how it works:

50% Goes Back to the Landowners and Local Infrastructure

Half of the day pass fee is allocated to local stakeholders:

  • At the end of each year, this amount will be distributed to landowners, road maintenance groups (väglag), or used to improve and maintain essential infrastructure like parking areas in Höckböle and around Getabergen.

  • This way, those who generously allow access to their land are compensated, and we can avoid future conflicts or access issues.

50% Invested in Tech and Access Solutions

The other half is reinvested in technical and practical improvements for both visitors and locals:

  • For example, we’re developing a QR-based system that allows climbers who have purchased a day pass to unlock the road barrier (vägbom) that leads closer to the crags along the coast of Norrhavet.

  • These funds will also support ongoing efforts to digitize maps, improve signage, and offer real-time updates to ensure a better climbing experience.

Our goal is simple: to keep northern Åland open and accessible to climbers – not just today, but for years to come.

By purchasing a Bouldering Day Pass, you’re not just paying to climb — you’re joining a long-term effort to protect access, build local trust, and support the small but vital community that makes climbing here possible.

We appreciate your support – and we’ll keep working hard to earn it. At the end of each year, we will publish a full breakdown on our website showing how much money has been collected through the Bouldering Day Pass and exactly how those funds have been used — whether it’s payments to landowners, road maintenance, parking improvements, or technical solutions like QR access.

We believe that transparency and accountability are key to building trust and ensuring the continued success of bouldering on northern Åland.

Thank you for being part of the solution.
